The Basics of Texas Holdem Poker

There are different forms of poker, and Texas holdem - the Cadillac of Poker - is just one of the few types. Whether you're playing at your local casino or at one of the many UK Poker sites, knowing the basics of holdem will save you time, money and embarrassment.

There are two players to the dealer’s left who put their blind bets. The player who is directly to the left of the dealer puts out a small blind, while the second player to the left of the dealer puts the big blind.

Every player will deal with 2 cards face down. These are known as the pocket or hole cards. The action, or first move, falls on players to the left of the big blind.

The player may choose to call a bet, raise, or simply fold. Betting will continue around the poker table in a clockwise motion. After completing the betting process, 3 cards will be dealt face up right at the center of poker table. This is known as a board. The first 3 cards in the game of Texas Hold’em poker are known as flop. These are basically community cards, and everyone can use these cards together with their personal hole cards for making a best hand.

From the position of flop on, the betting begins, and players are at the dealer’s left to check or to bet.

There will be a 4th card face up deal onto the poker board. This is the turn card, which is followed by another betting round. It is then time for a final card, which is dealt right face up. This is the river or 5th street. The final betting round occurs, and either of the boards wins.

When players are too involved in the game of poker, there are times when they might end up behaving too enthusiastically. While a bit of excitement seems to be fine when you are playing, your level of excitement should be a distraction for others.

It is important to follow poker mannerisms well and maintain good etiquette in order to make sure that you are not going over the top, whether your choose to play poker online or to play poker in a home game. In any case, common courtesy is always the rule of thumb.

>> Never splash your pot. There are some bad betting practices that you must have seen in real life poker games or in movies too. The first time is when players toss their bet in a big mess at the center of pot. This move is known as Splashing the Pot. This move makes it difficult to predict how much you have bet. A better alternative is to stack the chips lying in front to bet.

>>Avoid making those string bets. It is one of the worst habits that you will often see in players. These moves are also shown in some movies. You must decide whether you will raise or you want to call. Do not create a mess.

>>Avoid being rude at the poker table. Even if you are on a losing streak, you cannot start misbehaving or cursing others for that. Being mean and rude is one of the worst moves poker players can adopt.
