Biggest Poker Wins Ever

Ever since people began gambling on poker games, large sums of money have been involved to go along with the obvious respect and pride that comes with any poker win! Since poker's recent move into the mainstream though, some of the prizes involved have been bordering on ludicrous. Even in the world of online tournaments, away from the glitz and glamour of the televised poker tournaments, the amounts of money involved in games over the last few years have reached incredible heights.

For instance there was one historic day in 2008 where the World record for the largest ever online poker hand was smashed an incredible three times in just a couple of hours. High profile poker players John Juanda, Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Phil Ivey all won huge hands off of each other to break the record within just a couple of hours.

Firstly, Dwan won an enormous $618,000 hand to smash the previous record holding Ace-9 for two pair but just a matter of hours later Juanda took on Dwan and won a frankly ridiculous hand worth $678,000. The day was not over yet in terms of gargantuan hands though and former prodigy Phil Ivey stamped his authority on the game winning a hand worth a cool $687,000 to wrap up a record breaking day for these three ballsy men.

With money like this in poker it is easy to see why many more people every day are attracted to both follow poker as a spectator sport and to get involved themselves in the online versions of the game with millions of tournaments happening yearly. As more people enter the sport and pour money into the game it seems that for now there are no signs of the rise of poker (and incrementally the size of the rewards for winning) slowing down.

Casual players will only dream of the sort of hands being won by Ivey and Patrik Antonious, who won a remarkable hand of $878,959 in 2009, but unbelievable games such as the ones in which these records were broken still inspire and entertain the poker fans greatly.
